Here we have a selection of Clockwork Toy Keys from the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s. These keys have a hollow square box and are designed to fit a standard (2.4 to 2.9mm) square arbor (or spindle) like those found on the majority of vintage and retro clockwork toys.

As an example the Hornby Dublo arbor is approx 2.4mm, while the majority of tin plate wind up robot arbors are 2.6mm to 2.8mm, these keys will fit both.

Meccano spindles seem to be a little bigger at 3 to 3.1mm so these keys might be a little tight for their motors.

Please note that these keys are not universal as some models require an extended shaft to access the mechanism.
