We get asked a lot for power supplies/adapters for various games consoles, and although we do have a few that we use to test stuff in the workshop, we don’t generally have any for sale.
Here we have put together a quick guide to help you if you have to replace your power supply.
Always check the “VOLTS & AMPS” output on your console. As the voltage needs to be right for your console (most systems have this marked somewhere on the console). The amps can be slightly higher if you can’t get the right supply as most systems will only take what they need, so for a 1 amp unit you can generally get away with a 1.5 or even a 2 Amp supply.
ATARI
Atari 2600 – OUTPUT: 9V DC – 500 mA (1/8″ (3.2 mm) tip positive plug) a 9v – 1.0A works as a replacement
SEGA
SEGA Master System – OUTPUT: 9V – 1.0A
SEGA GENESIS 1, CD 1, CD 2 – OUTPUT: 9V – 1.2A (1602-1: 10V – 1.2A)
SEGA Genesis 2, 32X – OUTPUT: 10V – .85A
SEGA Genesis 3 – OUTPUT: 10V – .3A
SEGA CDX – OUTPUT: 9.5V – 1.5A
JVC X’EYE – OUTPUT: 9.5V – 1.5A
SEGA Saturn and Dreamcast use a figure of eight two prong 240v power cord, however the original SEGA Saturn with the oval buttons uses a flatter two pronged 240v power cord.
Sinclair ZX Spectrum 16K, 48K, 128K – Output 9v 1.4a
A replacement 9v 1.4a isn’t easy to find so we use a 9v 2a as we feel that the 9v 1a might not be powerful enough.
